Safe and Sound (2021)
John becomes obsessed with almost every little sound around him and as his behavior gets worse, so does his personal life.
Born as an idea within the MFA program, the writing was continuously improved as a result of constant feedback during development from peers that would eventually help in making it a reality.
Shot in a single day, this story is told without dialogue and plays heavily on framing and editing, as well as score. It also served as an introduction to production logistics in the USA, paving the way for things to come.
As usual with every new project, I needed to set a new challenge for myself. This time, it was efficiency. With many set-ups shared between two locations at either end of the city, the goal was to not only achieve the coverage necessary but more importantly to do it while preserving cast and crew morale.
Challenge completed. Throughout the film’s production process, I have met and grown to know people I will most definitely collaborate with again in the future. I remain immensely grateful to all the people that contributed directly or indirectly to this important project.
Side Note: The film was shot and completed before the pandemic.
Produced by Nicholas Nyhof
